What is a Reformer?

The Pilates reformer is a traditional piece of Pilates equipment which looks like a bed with springs, a sliding carriage, ropes, and pulleys. The springs and pulleys provide variable resistance to assist and challenge the body. Exercises on the Reformer maximize core stability and increase muscle endurance, joint stability, muscle strength, balance, and coordination.

The origins of the Pilates reformer date back to the original Pilates studio in New York in the 1920s and was designed by Joseph Pilates himself.
